Yep, I still take pictures. I just keep putting off editing them 😅

On day two of a five-day trip down the Mattawa River with my Dad, we woke up to this moody scene.
The Mattawa River is a historic canoe route traveled by the voyageurs for centuries as an important trade route connecting Lake Nipissing to the Ottawa River. They paddled in groups of 10 people in massive 11 metre, 300kg canoes for upwards of 18 hours per day. The river contains some very treacherous portages and a number of small rapids to contend with, and was interesting putting ourselves in their shoes for a few days (mind you with modern, much lighter gear).

The last several weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of planning, preparing, and executing multiple near back to back canoe trips. It's been an epic month to say the least. Here's the rundown of activities during this period of time:
🚣 Embarked on 3 separate backcountry canoe trips (1x Killarney, 2x Algonquin).
🚣 Fully outfitted my new (to me) @novacraftcanoe Prospector 16 with anchors, float bags, and thigh straps for whitewater paddling (pics to come).
🚣 Took a 2 day tandem whitewater course in Elora.
🚣 Stayed at 3 separate @algonquin_pp campgrounds (Pog, Achray, and Brent).
🚣 Drove the entire circumference of @algonquin_pp
🚣 Paddled approximately 120km
🚣 Hiked 8 separate trails.
🚣 Got completely eaten alive by the worst black flies I've experienced in my life.
This picture was taken in Algonquin on Lake Opeongo during a photography oriented trip where I was paddling my @swiftcanoeandkayak Keewaydin 16 Combi looking for wildlife. Thanks @_mattparish for the dope shot!
I'll be posting more pictures from these adventures as I find time to go through them 😅

In the span of less than a year, I was fortunate enough to embark on not one, but two trips in the south side of Killarney Provincial Park. Both trips involved camping on the beautiful Killarney lake (as seen in these pictures), and one involved further exploration into some other surrounding lakes where some accidental hiking on the Silhouette trail took place, and we befriended a gentleman in his 80s who owns the only private property on Kakakise Lake. We also embarked on day trips to hike "The Crack" (a literal crack in the quartz mountains), and paddle into O.S.A. Lake (Ontario Society of Artists).
O.S.A. lake remains the spectacle it is today thanks to A. Y. Jackson, a member of the Group of Seven who came to know that the area around the lake was set to be logged. His letter to the Ontario Government is the reason that it has been preserved.
The quartz mountains seen in this picture are just a fraction of the size they were somewhere around 2 billion years ago, when it is estimated they stood higher than today's Rocky Mountains. This was a baffling thing to wrap my head around while staring in awe from our site.
This is a truly special place that I hope remains well preserved far into the future. While I've had my fun here and don't plan on going back anytime soon, it's a place that is now ingrained in my memory that I hope to return to someday.

Had the opportunity this evening to meet the legend @jbadventurer at @novacraftcanoe
Since discovering his content last year, Jim has become a huge source of inspiration for me, and fundamentally changed the way I think about many aspects of canoe tripping and adventuring.
Be sure to check out his content if you're into backcountry tripping!
