Who the heck is this guy?
Born and raised in southern Ontario, Canada, I was exposed to the outdoors at a young age. At the age of 6, I was enrolled as a beaver scout and completed my first backcountry canoe trip two years later. These early in life experience stuck with me and I’ve been extremely passionate about the outdoors ever since.
Photography is something I’ve enjoyed since I received my first camera (a Samsung FF-222) as a kid. It stuck with me as something to complement my outdoors experiences which was especially enhanced after purchasing my first DSLR camera (Nikon D3200) while working part time at Staples in high school. This camera came with me on every adventure from backcountry canoe trips, travel to other countries, day hikes, and was even used to help film the Rogers TV series “Healed. Released. Free.”.
By the end of high school, I considered television broadcasting as a career, educating myself in as many ways possible by taking all available communication tech./broadcasting classes, volunteering for the school TV show, co-oping with Rogers TV, and filming my adventures in the outdoors. Ultimately, I ended up pursuing a different avenue entirely. I’d always been very technology savvy, enjoyed tinkering with computers, and was heavily involved with the AV work for my school’s events. This lead to my current career, where I work as a Network Engineer. The unfortunate result of choosing a career in Information Technology, is I spend much of my time indoors sitting behind a desk.
Throughout college and the early days of my career, I’d set down the camera and had stopped taking it on my adventures. While this really allowed me to be in the moment of my limited time outdoors, I randomly picked up my D3200 again in early 2022 thanks to inspiration from some photographer friends. I’d forgotten how much fun it was to combine my love for technology and my love for the outdoors in this one medium, and I was hooked once again. I knew it was time to upgrade my gear, and by some good luck and encouragement from a friend, ended up with a telephoto lens suitable for wildlife photography, which has turned into one of my favourite avenues.
These days, I’m enjoying taking my camera on all of my outdoor adventures as a complement to the experience, where I look to capture interesting wildlife, landscape, and other moments to share with anyone interested.
